There are 2100 contracts under the association, we don’t know where some contracts are: Minister Ghising

Kathmandu. Minister for Physical Infrastructure Kul Man Ghising has said that there are around 2100 contracts and the Department of Roads does not know where some of the contracts are.  He said this at an interaction programme with stakeholders on sick contract management organized by Nepal Infrastructure Journalists’ Society. 

There is a problem in the management of such contracts, he said. He said that not all the roads are of the department, but of the local level and the state. He said that the contracts of all levels are more than Rs 10,000. He said that contract management in Nepal is weak and contracts have been disappearing for years.

He said that there is a problem of not creating employment and not spending the budget when the contract is sick. He said that failure to work on time would affect the economy. According to him, there are problems like lack of employment generation if the contractors do not complete the contract on time.

He said that if some projects are not completed on time, it will have a big impact on the state and not everyone has paid attention to it.TAG_OPEN_div_17 He argues that there is a problem as to when the investment project will be built. He said that those who do not take decision on time and those who do not take decision should be brought under the ambit of action.

He said that the problem of the Ministry of Finance and the lack of coordination between the ministry and the Ministry of Finance was the reason for the project’s illness.TAG_OPEN_div_15 He also claimed that there is a big problem in the Ministry of Finance. According to him, the ministry did not terminate the contract.

Minister Ghising said that work should not be done with wrong intention and everyone should work with the right intention. He said that working with wrong intentions will have an impact from the state to the people. Minister Ghising said that the contract conference is more important than the investment summit.
