Kathmandu. Hitendra Dev Shakya, managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), has assumed office after the Supreme Court ordered him to resign.

He assumed office at the NRA this morning. On Monday, the court had issued a mandamus order to reinstate him in the authority.

A division bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Shreekanta Poudel on Monday issued the verdict against the government’s decision to sack Shakya.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kul Man Ghising had removed Shakya from the post of Executive Director on September 20. Immediately after Minister Ghising was sacked, Shakya had reached the Supreme Court demanding reinstatement of the NRA.

Manoj Silwal, the outgoing executive director of NEA, has returned from the post on Tuesday.
