Genji agitation causes physical loss of Rs 84.45 billion, private sector suffers more than Rs 33.5 billion

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: A committee formed to assess the damage caused during the Jenji movement and prepare a plan for the reconstruction of public infrastructures has submitted its report to Prime Minister Sushila Karki.

Similarly, National Planning Commission Secretary Rabilal Pantha, who is also the coordinator of the committee, presented the summary of the report in the Council of Ministers meeting held at Singha Durbar today.

The committee was formed on September 20 under the coordination of the Secretary of the National Planning Commission following the decision of the Council of Ministers. The committee submitted its report within 75 days.

According to the committee, all seven provinces were damaged during the Zenji movement. Among the affected districts, 54 districts and 262 local levels were affected.

According to the report, 20 people died on September 9, 37 on September 24 and 20 after that. Of the 2,429 injured, 17 were under the age of 13. According to the report, 1,433 people between the ages of 13 and 28 were injured.

According to the committee’s assessment, the total physical loss was Rs 84.45 billion. Of them, 2168 are affected bodies. A total of 2671 buildings have been damaged. The assessment of the damage is Rs 39.31 billion.

A total of 12,659 vehicles were damaged and Rs 12.93 billion was damaged. The government and public sector has suffered a loss of Rs 44.93 billion.

The assessment of the damage to the private sector is worth Rs 33.54 billion. Community and other areas have suffered damages worth Rs 5.97 billion.

The federal government accounts for 68 per cent of the total government losses, while the provinces and local levels account for 10 and 22 per cent, respectively. The committee has also submitted a work plan for reconstruction. It is estimated that Rs 36.30 billion would be required for the reconstruction.
