NRNA General Secretary Lama brings model of membership decentralization and transparency

Kathmandu. General Secretary and steering committee member Baburam Lama said that the announcement of historic unification by breaking the long-standing divisions within the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has created new enthusiasm among the Nepali community scattered around the world.

“This unification is not only an organizational decision but also a victory of the common dream, faith and deep love for the motherland of Nepalis around the world,” Lama said in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Thursday.TAG_OPEN_div_34 ’

He believes that the central leadership (ICC) should be made fully accountable to the National Coordination Councils (NCCs) around the world.TAG_OPEN_div_28 “For this, it is an essential necessity and the first condition to keep the organization free from personal interest by considering the rules and statutes as paramount. Lama said.

He also stressed that the NCC should be promoted as an independent and autonomous partner organization on the model of the United Nations and not as a federal body.TAG_OPEN_div_26

Similarly, he has proposed a drastic change in the electoral system and the convention and election should be held through the direct system instead of the delegate system.TAG_OPEN_div_24  He also proposed to abolish the existing centralized membership registration system and give autonomy to all NCCs to form membership through their own portal.

Giving priority to regular dialogue and coordination with the NCC, General Secretary Lama stressed on the need of creation of special mechanisms to integrate the knowledge, skills and capital of the NRNA members.TAG_OPEN_div_22 “It is the responsibility of the organization to make the participation of youth and women in this process meaningful and compulsory and not just a formality,” he said. “We have to move ahead with a clear vision and result-oriented action plan. ” he said.

According to Lama, the main objective of NRNA is ‘continuity of Nepali citizenship and prosperity of motherland’.TAG_OPEN_div_20 He also stressed the need for all to work together to make it a complete reality. Describing the recent unification as the beginning of the renaissance of NRNA, he called upon all to utilize this opportunity to make the organization the strongest and exemplary Diaspora organization in the world.

The unification was formally announced in the presence of the Prime Minister on November 30 between the two groups.
