Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences to be constructed at a cost of Rs 10.55 crore

Kathmandu. The medical building of the Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences (Pokhara) has not been completed even after five years. Only 51 per cent physical progress has been achieved so far when the contract was signed to complete the project within 20 months. The deadline extended for the third time also expired in August.

The building is being constructed by the Federal Urban Building Office Pokhara under the Ministry of Urban Development at a cost of Rs 105 TAG_OPEN_div_12.55 million (excluding taxes). Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Minister for Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, inspected the construction site and took stock of the progress of the construction sites. On the occasion, Minister Ghising held discussions with the head of the division, vice-chancellor and contractors regarding the construction schedule.

Expressing anguish over the delay in the construction of sensitive infrastructure like a hospital that is directly related to the health of the people, Ghising said that the construction cannot be held hostage and kept in the status quo.TAG_OPEN_div_10 He warned that if the construction was not started immediately, the contract would be scrapped and action would be taken against the contractors. He directed the office to forward the process of annulling the contract if the construction works fail within a week.

Similarly, Vice-Chancellor of KAHS, Bharat Khatri, said that the building should be constructed immediately as health service delivery has been facing problems in lack of buildings.TAG_OPEN_div_8
