Kathmandu. As many as 22 contracts related to irrigation that were left in limbo for years have been scrapped.
The total contract amount of the projects is Rs 14.23 billion.
A total of 22 patient contracts including six contracts of Babai Irrigation Project, 15 contracts of Janakpurdham Dhanusha and one contract of Sunkoshi Marin were terminated. The contract worth Rs 1.76 crore of Bheri Babai has been scrapped. Contracts worth Rs 13.17 crore under Janakpurdham office have been scrapped.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kulman Ghising directed subordinate bodies to end the tendency of not taking tenders but not carrying out works and delaying projects.
After that, the offices started the process of terminating the problematic contract for years. Currently, 215 contracts are awarded under the Department of Water Resources and Irrigation. Among them, 33 contracts are problematic. Director General of the Department, Mitra Baral, said that 22 of the problems have been broken so far.
KATHMANDU: The biggest contract for the irrigation project of the Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project has been scrapped. The contractor Patel-Raman JV and Janakpur-9, Dhanusha have terminated the contract agreement with the contractor for the supply and installation of hydro-mechanical equipment including the headworks, power house and gates. The contract for the project was signed with Patel-Raman JV at a cost of Rs 14.08 billion.
