Kathmandu. The Bagmati Province government has collected Rs 16.11 billion revenue in the first five months of the current fiscal year, which is 23.88 per cent of the target.

Land registration and vehicle tax are the main sources of revenue collection for the provincial government. Indra Raj Sanyal, an officer at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Planning Development of Bagmati Province, said that the revenue was collected from mid-July to mid-December against the estimated revenue collection of Rs 30.89 billion in the current fiscal year.

According to him, the government has collected Rs 1.66 billion in revenue in the first five months of the fiscal year against the target of Rs 7.70 billion.

The government had estimated to collect Rs 8.25 billion from vehicle tax heading under vehicle test pass, route permit, distribution and renewal of driving license.

Similarly, the provincial government has collected Rs 3.06 billion against the estimated VAT of Rs 8.79 billion. According to the Ministry, the government has collected Rs 1.07 billion as excise duty against the estimated amount of Rs 4.03 billion.

According to Sanyal, the government has received Rs 5.68 billion or 38.38 per cent of the estimated amount of equalization grant from the federal government in the first five months.

According to the Ministry, the province government has received Rs 1.50 billion or 31.44 per cent of the target against the estimated revenue of Rs 4.77 billion in the current fiscal year.

Due to the lack of financial liquidity, the decrease in the purchase and sale of real estate and new vehicles, and the loss caused to various revenue collection agencies of the state government during the demonstrations held on September 7 and 24, the revenue collection has not been possible.
