Kathmandu. Similarly, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kulman Ghising stressed the need of conserving the river bank to save the four-lane Mahakali bridge and the surrounding settlements.
Minister Ghising, who reached the area to take stock of the area eroded by the Mahakali bridge and the Mahakali river, said that the construction of the embankment should be forwarded by removing the confusion in the construction of the embankment.
He also directed the Department of Roads and Mahakali Bridge Project to expedite the construction of embankment management as there was a risk of flooding in the river and settlements on the left side of the river if the project could not be completed before the next monsoon.
A four-lane bridge over the Mahakali river is being constructed targeting the under-construction dry port at Dodhara Chandani and Dodhara-Chandani Municipality across the Mahakali river.
In order to protect the bridge from floods, the decision of the Council of Ministers on May 6, 2082 had given approval to the NA to carry out temporary river control works for the management of the river by removing the river products accumulated in the middle of the Mahakali River near the Mahakali Bridge and for the reduction of flood-induced disasters. After that, temporary structures were built by the army.
The structures constructed by the army as they are temporary in nature should be further strengthened keeping in mind the risk of immediate rainfall. The temporary structure constructed by the Nepal Army on the left bank of the upper bank of the bridge needs to be strengthened.
Minister Ghising directed to expedite the restoration works and said that necessary facilitation would be made for the same. The plan has already prepared the design of the reinforcement work.
