. Chiranjibi Adhikari, Senior Vice President of Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation), said that data center and cloud services are the real backbone for Nepal’s digital economy.

Addressing the ‘CAN B2B Summit-2025’ organized in Lalitpur on Saturday, Senior Vice-President Adhikari said that Nepal’s digital dream cannot be materialized without a strong digital infrastructure. Stating that technology was no longer just a facilitation, it was the lifeblood of economy, and the efforts of digital transformation would not be sustainable without the assurance of secure data storage.

Investment in Digital Infrastructure

The official said that cloud services are essential for startups to large industries. “Reliable cloud infrastructure frees entrepreneurs from huge capital expenditure on servers and security,” he said, adding that reliable cloud infrastructure is a must to realize the attraction of Nepali youth in e-commerce, fintech and IT service exports. ‘

The data center market is projected to exceed $602 billion by 2030. “Countries like Estonia, Singapore and India have invested in digital infrastructure and that is why Nepal is ahead in the global competition,” he said, underlining that Nepal should not delay in formulating a similar strategy.

Admitting that Nepal’s digital sky is sensitive from the point of view of cyber security and there is a lack of skilled manpower, Adhikari put forward three major points of improvement.

These include policy reforms, data protection, cybersecurity, and the creation of clear and investment-friendly laws for data localization.

Skilled manpower, university and industry have collaborated to produce manpower as per the demand of the market, while the Telecommunication Development Fund has been effectively used to take digital transformation to the rural areas outside Kathmandu.

He also pointed out the possibility of developing Nepal as a tech hub of South Asia by leveraging its strategic location.  He said that this was the right time to attract foreign investment through public-private partnership.
