Gopal Pokhrel’s group has exited Lumbini Medical College after selling its shares for around one and a half billion.TAG_OPEN_p_14 Kathmandu. Founder of Lumbini Medical College, Gopal Pokharel, has officially walked out of the hospital.
The group led by Gopal Pokhrel has sold its shares to a group led by IT entrepreneur Dinesh Silwal.TAG_OPEN_p_13 According to sources, Silwal and his group bought around 70 percent of the ownership of Lumbini Medical College for Rs 1.6 billion.
Dinesh Silwal, who has bought a majority stake in Lumbini Medical College, is the chairman of Kodaavatar, a reputed IT company in Nepal.TAG_OPEN_p_12 Following the completion of the share trading, a new board of directors of the college has also been formed. Silwal has been elected as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Managing Director Dr. The board of directors includes Nirdosh Khanal, Dibesh Lohani and Govinda Upadhyaya. Nirdosh Khanal was also a member of the old board of directors earlier. Among the old shareholders, a group led by Tansen Municipality Mayor Santosh Lal Shrestha is still the shareholders.
The Gopal TAG_OPEN_p_10 Pokhrel Group had earlier bought the ownership of Devdaha Medical College in Butwal. After taking ownership of Devdaha Medical College, the Pokharel group had decided to sell the shares of Lumbini Medical College and exit it. After discussions with various groups for the last four years, the process of buying and selling the shares was completed after finally reaching an agreement with the Silwal group.
Entrepreneur Gopal Pokharel, along with some of his friends, Lumbini Medical College was established in 2062 BS. Kodaavatar, one of the largest exporting companies from Nepal in the IT sector, has received recognition from the Government of Nepal.
Lumbini Medical College is spread over 311 ropanis of land.TAG_OPEN_p_8 Currently, 20 buildings of the college are fully operational. The college has been providing three programs of medical education and providing specialist treatment services.
Although the 400-bed teaching hospital of Lumbini Medical College has been approved, the 600-bed teaching hospital is currently in operation.TAG_OPEN_p_7 The hospital provides OPD services to around 500 patients on a daily basis and has been admitted to around 300 beds.
