Kathmandu. In the first five months of the current fiscal year, Nepalese have purchased smartphones worth Rs 19.13 billion. According to the statistics of the Department of Customs, 10,70,680 units of smartphones were purchased by Nepalese in the first five months.
According to the data of the Department of Customs, the largest import of smartphones is from China. A total of 905,707 smartphones have been imported from China alone. The import value of which has reached Rs 15.04 billion. The government has collected Rs 2.80 billion in revenue from smartphones imported from China.
India is the second largest smartphone importer after China. A total of 1,62,247 smartphones have been imported from India. The value of mobile imported from India was Rs 3.87 billion and revenue of Rs 72.21 crore was collected from it.
Likewise, 604 units of smartphones were imported from Qatar, 512 units from the United Arab Emirates, 444 units from the USA, 414 units from Japan and 73 units from the United Kingdom. The value of mobile imported from the US is Rs 5 crore 1 lakh 42 thousand and revenue of Rs 96.69 lakh has been collected from it.
Similarly, a limited number of smartphones were imported from Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, France, Germany, Switzerland, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, among other countries. According to customs data, only one or two smartphones have been imported from some countries.
The government has collected Rs 3.56 billion in revenue from imported smartphones in the first five months of the current fiscal year.
