Far-West. The arrival of passengers from third countries who had completed the process at the Immigration Office in Dhangadhi of Kailali has been halted for the past one year. The office has also come to a standstill after the Indian side stopped the movement of citizens from third countries crossing the border via Gauriphanta checkpoint.

Shanti Budha, information officer at the office, said, “The Indian officials in Gauriphanta have stopped the movement of passengers from third countries since January last year, citing lack of resources.” With the stoppage of this work, the guests reaching Gauriphanta are facing problems as they are not able to go to their destinations. ”

According to him, although the immigration office here has maintained the management and service delivery related to immigration, the passengers reaching across the border have not been allowed to cross the border. He said that the passengers have started using the Gaddachauki border point of Kanchanpur after they were not allowed to use the Gauriphanta transit point for movement.

Information Officer Budha said that the disruption of movement to Gauriphanta has also affected the revenue collection of the Kailali Immigration Office. Also, the passengers using this border point have been compelled to use other transit points. According to him, the Office has been providing services like extending the visa of foreign citizens and issuing marriage visa.

According to the annual statistics of the Office for the year 2024, out of 30 citizens from third countries, 32 had left the border point. However, the work has been halted since then,” said Information Officer Budha. The entry and departure points are operated by the Department of Immigration, which is the main responsibility of managing immigration.
