Kathmandu. The Presidential Graduate School of Thapagaun, Baneshwor, affiliated to Westcliff University of the United States of America, is to plant about five thousand coffee saplings.
The college, the education partner of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2082, had decided to plant coffee saplings on the basis of the fours and sixes hit in the NPL.
The college had announced to plant 6 coffee saplings for each six and 4 coffee saplings for each four. According to Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), 427 sixes and 607 fours were hit in the 2082 NPL. Accordingly, the college has planted 2,562 saplings each for six and 2,428 for four.
“Coffee farming will help strengthen the local economy, create employment and strengthen the college’s collaboration with the rural community,” said Laxman KC, president of the college.
The location for planting this year has not yet been decided. According to the college, evaluation is underway to identify suitable land.
According to the college, the campaign has been started with the belief that educational institutions should not be limited to teaching within the classroom but should also be active in rural development and promotion of local production. The college has also come up with a plan to provide direct support, training and market access to rural farmers through coffee farming.
Last year, the Presidential Graduate School had planted 1100 different saplings in different places of Kathmandu Valley. At that time, the rate of planting one sapling in each square and two saplings in six squares was set.
The Presidential Graduate School has been offering Bachelor’s and Master’s level courses in management faculty since the last 15 years and IT faculty since the last five years.
