Permission to import 654 MW electricity from India renewed

.  KATHMANDU: India has renewed permission granted to Nepal to import 654 MW of electricity from the Indian Energy Exchange (IX) at competitive rates.  The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), under the Ministry of Power of India, has renewed its license to import 654 MW of electricity from the day-ahead and real-time market of IX. The permission granted earlier was to expire on Wednesday.

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has received permission to import 654 MW of electricity from 6000 MW from Tanakpur-Mahendranagar through Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur 400 KV transmission line at competitive rates.TAG_OPEN_div_10  The import of electricity has been allowed from 1 January to 31 March 2026. According to the authority, the renewal will be done later from Chaitra 18 to 15 Bhadra (1 April-31 August 2026).

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising on Tuesday called the officials of the Ministry of Power and requested them to renew the license to allow the government to import electricity through RTC mode.TAG_OPEN_div_8

He said that the permission to import electricity in RTC mode will make it easier to manage the demand and supply of electricity during the winter season.TAG_OPEN_div_6
