Kathmandu. A two-day export fair has kicked off in Thamel, the main tourist destination.
The two-day expo has kicked off in collaboration with Trade and Export Promotion Centre and Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN).
Speaking at the inaugural program of the expo, Executive Director of Trade and Export Promotion Center Sharad Bikram Rana lauded the role played by the Export Council of Nepal in exporting Nepali goods to the world market.
According to him, the Trade and Export Promotion Center has been working to resolve the problems seen in course of exporting goods to foreign countries.
President of Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal Rabindra Shakya said the Federation was coordinating with the Council to export handicraft goods produced in Nepal to foreign countries.
Senior Vice-Chairman of the Export Council, Dr Ram Sharan Thapaliya, said that the government has stopped providing cash subsidy on export-oriented goods. He also demanded immediate correction of the government’s decision to withhold cash grants.
The fair has 20 stalls including handicraft goods, felt, metal products, garments, Nepali Dhaka clothes and woolen handmade goods, according to Council General Secretary Hari Dhakal.
The expo, which will run until Monday, will feature goods display, sales and discussions with foreign entrepreneurs. According to the data, Nepal exported goods worth Rs 277÷03 billion in the fiscal year 208182 and Rs 93.50 billion in the first four months of the current fiscal year.
