80,000 troops to be deployed for March 4 election

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army (NA) is preparing to mobilize 80,000 personnel for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives scheduled for March 4.

Brigadier General and Spokesperson of the Nepal Army, Rajaram Basnet, said that the army would be mobilized as per the Integrated Security Plan 2082 approved by the President in the context of elections.

He said, “The army will be mobilized in the field from a month before the election as per the guidelines of the Integrated Security Plan.” ”

The Integrated Security Plan has already been approved by the government and the mobilization of the army has been approved by the National Security Council. The army will work in three phases in connection with the election. The NA will take up the main responsibility of pre-election security as well as the security of important infrastructure, including the printing of ballot papers.

The NA will provide security to the airport, prisons and other important structures in coordination and collaboration with Nepal Police and Armed Police Force.

In course of the elections, the NA would conduct integrated training and exercise related to the elections up to the grassroots level in coordination, cooperation and cooperation with all the four security bodies and district administrations. The training and exercise will be conducted to facilitate the conduct of the election in a free, fair, and fear-free environment.

The Nepal Army will ensure security to the political parties, candidates, voters and employees deputed in the election during the elections.

As in the past, the Nepal Army is preparing to set up security in various places of the country in view of the upcoming elections. With the completion of voting on March 4, the NA will take responsibility of transportation of ballot boxes and security of vote counting centres.

Security seminars are being held at the state level in order to hold the elections in a fear-free environment on the stipulated date. Based on the suggestions received in the seminar, the government will make additional security arrangements after assessing and analyzing the situation.

NA has said that it was ready to provide election security, which is the primary responsibility of the state, through coordination and cooperation among all security forces, local administration and people’s people’s security.
