Jhapa. The import of tomatoes from the Mechi customs office at Kakarbhitta has increased by 932 percent in the first five months of the current fiscal year. Tomato worth Rs 68.4 million was imported from India in the last one year to mid-November.
Information Officer at the Office Ishwor Kumar Humagain said that 26 lakh 76 thousand 520 kg tomatoes were imported from India while the customs collected Rs 8.2 million 73 thousand in revenue from the import of tomatoes.
Information Officer Humagain said that 138,650 kilograms of tomatoes worth Rs 3.73 million were imported from the eastern border point in the same period of the fiscal year 2081/82. According to him, the import of tomato has increased by 932 percent in the current fiscal year as compared to the last fiscal year. According to him, most of the tomatoes imported in Nepal are imported from India.
Information Officer Humagain said that the import of vegetables has increased in the first five months of the current fiscal year. According to him, vegetables worth Rs 1.18 billion were imported from the border point in the current fiscal year. According to the Customs Office, vegetables worth Rs 1.11 billion were imported in the same period of the last fiscal year.
