National Assembly session kicks off today

Kathmandu. The 19th session of the National Assembly is beginning from today. Preparations are underway to hold the session at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar after the parliament building at the International Convention Centre in New Baneshwor was gutted in course of the Jenji movement. The meeting will take place at 11 a.m. today.

Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal has called a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee on Friday itself for the preparation of the session. In the first meeting of the session, Chairman Dahal will read out the letter summoning the session from the President and present a condolence motion on the demise of Nepali Congress lawmaker Baldev Bohora.

Federal Parliament Secretariat spokesperson Ekram Giri said that all preparations for the session have been completed. President Ram Chandra Poudel had summoned the session of the National Assembly at 11:00 am on January 12 as per the Article 93 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers. The 18th session of the National Assembly had prorogued on September 14.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has also made preparations for the election of 19 members to the National Assembly on January 24. According to the EC, one member has been elected unopposed to the National Assembly. The convention is being seen with importance at a time when preparations are underway for the election of the House of Representatives and new members are about to be elected to the National Assembly.
