Jhapa. KATHMANDU: The export of cardamom, chhurpi and other products from Kakarvitta has increased encouraging in the last fiscal year 2082/83.
According to the Mechi Customs Office, a total of 3,461,350 kg of cardamom worth Rs 7.19 billion was exported in the first six months of the current fiscal year.
Cardamom export has increased by 58 percent in the current fiscal year compared to the same period of 2081/82 BS, said Information Officer at the Office Ishwar Kumar Humagain.
Cardamom worth Rs 4.55 billion was exported from mid-July to mid-December of the last fiscal year. The export of chhurpi has increased by 66.2 percent in the first half of the current fiscal year as compared to the same period last year.
In the first six months of the current fiscal year, 432,405 kg of chhurpi worth Rs 765,03,000 was exported. According to the customs, 266,243 kg of chhurpi worth Rs 457.634 million was exported in the same period last year.
Exports of veneer sheet and lentils were also high. However, the export progress of tea and plywood is negative compared to that of the last fiscal year. In the first six months of the current fiscal year 2082/83, veneer sheets worth Rs 530.4 million and lentils worth Rs 91.28 million were exported.
Compared to the last fiscal year, the export of lentils increased by 481 percent and veneer seat by 109 percent. Tea exports fell 26.4 per cent while plywood exports fell 44.5 per cent in the half-year, according to Mechi Customs Office.
Tea worth Rs 2.17 billion and plywood worth Rs 1.09 billion were exported in the first six months of the current fiscal year. Tea worth Rs 2.95 billion and plywood worth Rs 1.97 billion were exported in the same period last year.
Similarly, in the first half year of the current fiscal year 2082/83, the country exported acid, ginger and dry onion worth Rs 501.73 million, cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli worth Rs 113.19 million and herbs worth Rs 57.427 million.
