4 ministers of temporary government resign in election fray, who from where?

Kathmandu. Four ministers of the Sushila Karki-led interim government are in the election to the House of Representatives. They resigned from the post of ministers and became candidates for the upcoming elections scheduled for March 4.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Urban Development Minister Kul Man Ghising, Minister for Youth and Sports Bablu Gupta, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel and Minister for Education, Science and Technology Mahabir Pun are vying for the post.

Earlier, they announced that they would resign from the post before entering the fray of party politics to prevent the independent identity of the incumbent government from being undermined.

After resigning from the post of Energy Minister, Ghising formed the Ujyalo Nepal Party under his own leadership. Prior to this, he was the Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority. Spokesperson of the party, Dr Raju Thapa, informed that Ghising is contesting from Kathmandu-3.

Former Minister for Youth and Sports Gupta is contesting from Siraha constituency-1 on behalf of Rastriya Swatantra Party.

Kharel had been active in journalism sector for more than two decades. Prior to becoming a minister, he had taken the editorial leadership of Image Television. Vice President of Rastriya Swatantra Party DP Aryal handed over the insignia of party affiliation to Kharel today itself. He is scheduled to file his candidacy at the election office of Lalitpur Constituency-2 at 3:00 pm.

Likewise, former Education Minister and National Innovation Centre founder and scientist Pun has filed his candidacy as an independent candidate from Myagdi constituency-1 today. KATHMANDU: The filing of nominations of candidates is taking place in all 165 constituencies across the country under the first-past-the-post (first-past) election system for the members of the House of Representatives today.
