Election to the House of Representatives: Filing of nominations across the country today

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The registration of candidacy for the first-past-the-post (FPTP) election to the House of Representatives scheduled for March 4 is taking place across the country today. The Election Commission (EC) has set up election offices at all 165 electoral constituencies across the country and all preparations for the registration of candidates have been completed.

The EC has urged all political parties and candidates concerned to reach the election office in a peaceful and dignified manner while registering their candidacy.

The EC has also fixed the time for the registration of candidacy for the major political parties and candidates. The EC has made it clear that the time has been fixed to reduce crowd and facilitate the registration of candidacy candidates.

Earlier, the EC had published the final list of candidates for the proportional representation system. In the 275-member House of Representatives, 110 would be elected through the proportional representation system while 165 would be elected through the first-past-the-post system.

The interim government formed after the Jenji agitation on September 7 and 24 has provided necessary means and resources for the election. The process for the selection of election police has been started for the purpose of election security. Most of the political parties have already selected the candidates and they are yet to be selected.

The Nepali Congress is in the process of selecting candidates from some constituencies. KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has already selected its candidates for all the constituencies. The CPN-UML, CPN (UMP), Nepali Communist Party and Rastriya Swatantra Party among others have already provided official letters to the candidates.

As per the schedule set by the EC, the nomination of candidates is taking place across the country today. The candidate must be present for the nomination with a copy of the citizenship certificate or voter identity card.

Similarly, it is necessary to ensure that the name is included in the final voters’ list of any rural municipality or municipality. The commission has also asked them to bring some other documents.

The Commission has stated that all necessary preparations have been completed. It has expressed the belief that the process of nomination of candidates will move ahead across the country in an enthusiastic manner today. The new election is taking place after the dissolution of the House of Representatives held in 2079 BS due to the agitation in August.
