Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested 6 persons involved in a fake rescue operation.
The CIB has arrested proprietors and managers of various travel companies. CIB chief Manoj KC said that those involved in cheating tourists by making fake documents have been arrested. According to KC, this number could increase.
Jayaram Rimal, Bibek Pandey, Rabindra Adhikari, Bibek Raj Thapaliya, Mukti Pandey and Subhash KC were arrested by the CIA.
The arrestees are Rimal and Manager of Mountain Rescue, Adhikari and operation manager of Nepal Chartered Service, and Pandey and Manager KC of Everest Experience and Assistance.
KC said they were being investigated on national interest charges, criminal gains, organized crime and money laundering charges.
According to the CIB, the Mountain Rescue Service Pvt Ltd had carried out fake rescue of 171 out of 1248 people. More than $100 million has been claimed in insurance.
It has been revealed that Nepal Charter Service Pvt Ltd has rescued 471 people and fake-rescued 75 people. It has demanded $82 million.
Everest Experience and Assistance Pvt Ltd has rescued 71 tourists out of 601 people who are suspicious. It has demanded $11.53 million.
