Kathmandu. KATHMANDU — Election to the member of the National Assembly (NA) held today was enthusiastic and peaceful, according to the Election Commission. A total of 95.68 per cent voter turnout was recorded in all seven provinces, EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said.
The election is being held today for 18 members who will fall vacant from March 3. According to the details received from the offices of the returning officers, out of the total 360 voters in Koshi Province, 345 votes were cast. According to Bhattarai, 341 out of 364 votes were cast in Madhes Province, 318 out of 338 votes in Bagmati Province, 223 out of 228 in Gandaki Province, 286 out of 299 in Lumbini, 191 out of 198 votes in Karnali and 220 out of 224 in Sudurpaschim Province.
Of the total 21 voters in all seven provinces, 1,924 votes were cast, according to the EC. The EC has thanked all the political parties, candidates and stakeholders for their support in conducting the voting in a peaceful and enthusiastic manner. All the ballot boxes will be collected and the vote counting will take place at the office of the concerned election officer, the EC said.
Out of the 18 posts falling vacant from March 4, one post was unopposed in the Khas Arya category in Koshi Province. Sunil Bahadur Thapa of Nepali Congress was elected unopposed. The voting for the remaining 17 posts took place from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the designated polling centres and polling centres in the capitals of all seven provinces.
