Coal Customs, which is in the news during elections: Always in a hurry to collect revenue as per target

Dang. KATHMANDU: The Coal Customs Office has failed to collect revenue as per the target in the first six months of the current fiscal year.

In the first six months of the fiscal year 2082/83, the government failed to collect revenue as per the target.

The only customs point in Dang has collected 873,638 less revenue than the target. The customs office had set a target of collecting Rs 84.97 lakh revenue in the first six months. A total of 76,23,362 was collected till mid-January, said Lok Bahadur Bista, chief of the Coalwas Customs. This is 89.723 per cent of the target.

The office has collected 990,974 rupees against the target of collecting Rs 13.58 lakh in revenue in July. Similarly, Rs 668,649 revenue has been collected against the target of collecting Rs 14.98 million in August.

A total of 804,551 revenue has been collected against the target of Rs 14.17 lakh in September. Similarly, a total of 963,830 people have been collected against the target of collecting Rs 1.5 million in October.

A total of 8,86,295 revenue has been collected against the target of Rs 13,83,000 in the month of November. Against the target of collecting Rs 13.40 lakh in the month of December, 33 lakh nine thousand 63 rupees have been collected. According to the Customs Office, the revenue collection has increased due to the increase in the arrival of Indian tourists in the month of December.

The goods imported to Dang, Rolpa and Pyuthan are not seen entering the country through the Koilabas border point. Even though it is the shortest border point for traders, there is no attraction. Although there is an easy road network, no effective efforts have been made by the government bodies to operate it.

Although the private sector has made some efforts, it has not been successful. During every election, the coal customs has been in the limelight. Even now, the candidates have started raising the issue of coal waste. They have started assuring that they will contribute to the development of Dang by operating the Koilabas border point.
