Department directs government to adjust price hike of daily essentials

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection has directed producers, importers and distributors to adjust the price hike seen in consumer goods.

Issuing a press release on Wednesday, the Department directed the government to maintain competitive and fair market system by controlling unnecessary price hike in the market.

“Major producers, major importers and distributors of food and oil productions have been summoned to provide their goods and services without taking undue profit and to provide relief to consumers by adjusting for abnormal price hike,” reads the press release.

The Department has said its serious attention has been drawn to the complaints received through the consumers and mass media regarding abnormal price hike and decrease in supply of daily essentials such as edible oil, cooking gas and rice in recent period.

The Department stated that the Department was effortful and committed to ensuring consumers’ rights to quality goods and services as per the Consumer Protection Act-2075 and Consumer Protection Rules-2076 BS.

For this, joint monitoring of producers, sellers, importers, hoarders and service providing firms and establishments of essential and daily essentials is being carried out with the help of other agencies.
