Voluntary assistance to candidates

Kathmandu. The Election Commission (EC) has clarified that candidates and political parties can take voluntary support from well-wishers and supporters for election-related activities. However, no one is allowed to ask for donations by fixing a certain amount, the commission said.

According to the Commission’s Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the funds can be collected for the publicity campaign within the limits of the prevailing laws. “Those willing to contribute can voluntarily deposit the amount in the separate account opened by the candidate or party for the election purpose,” he said.

The EC has reiterated that the amount deposited in the account opened for election purpose cannot be used for personal purposes. The commission has also warned of legal action if the aid amount is misused.

Meanwhile, the EC has intensified the printing of ballot papers for the upcoming elections. So far, 8.44 million ballot papers have been printed and 7,137 ballot boxes have been packed.

According to Bhattarai, the printing and packing of ballot papers required for 32 districts has been completed. The printing and management of ballot papers required for the remaining districts is also moving ahead at a rapid pace, the EC said.
