Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The National Assembly (NA) has unanimously passed the decision to withdraw the Social Media Bill from the government.
KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives (HoR) today withdrew the ‘Social Network Bill-2081 BS’, which was under consideration in the National Assembly. Presenting the bill for a decision on the bill, Assembly Chair Narayan Dahal announced that the bill has been withdrawn.
Legislation Management Committee President Tulasa Kumari Dahal presented the ‘Legislative Management Committee Report on Social Networking Bill-2081 BS’.
The meeting of the Assembly held on August 29, 2002 had originated the bill from the National Assembly and sent it to the Legislative Management Committee for clause-wise discussions. A total of 35 lawmakers registered 155 amendment proposals in the committee.
Committee President Dahal shared that informal discussions were held with the Minister for Information and Communications, Ministry Secretary and stakeholders at different stages on the bill.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on February 5 had decided to withdraw the bill and the government through a letter dated February 4 directed the government to withdraw it.
