Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Hydropower companies listed in the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) have complained that they have not been able to make proper profit due to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
The companies that have already started generating electricity have complained about this. The listed hydropower companies have made this complaint while publishing the financial statements of the second quarter of the current fiscal year.
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has not been able to make a profit due to the delay in the construction of the transmission line, instructions to generate electricity in less capacity than the capacity of the project and lack of guarantee of electricity sales income. The companies claim that if the power is not generated as per the capacity, the income from the sale of electricity will decrease and it will also affect the dividend to the shareholders.
“The Dordikhola Hydropower Company has been compelled to generate less than 12 MW of electricity as the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has directed the project to generate less than the installed capacity even though there is sufficient water in the river during the rainy season. This seems to have an impact on income,” it said.
Himalayan Power Partner Company has also shown similar problems. “Although the Dordi Khola Hydropower Project operated by the company is capable of generating 100 per cent capacity, the company has to operate at a lower capacity as per the directives of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) from 14th Ashwin 2079, the date of commercial operation,” the company said । ’
Likewise, Rapti Hydro and General Construction has constructed 32 KV power projects in different sections of Rukum West-Salyan-Dang under Nepal Electricity Authority. Frequent problems in the transmission line have directly affected the power generation,” it said.
Rawa Energy Development Company, Nyadi Hydropower has warned about frequent disruptions in the electricity transmission line of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). Supermai Hydropower Company said that the relatively low profit would be due to the lack of payment for excess electricity generated during the rainy season, reducing the load at times and reducing production during the dry season.
Likewise, the Upper Sangay Hydropower Company has said that there is a temporary problem of transmitting electricity to the full capacity during the rainy season until the construction of the Tarikuna substation (Khudihub) is completed.
Similarly, Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Company has said that there should be guarantee of income from the sale of electricity. Balefi Hydropower has also said that it has not been able to make a significant profit due to NEA.
On the other hand, NEA Spokesperson Rajan Dhakal said that the NEA has been purchasing electricity as per the agreement. Although the disruption lasted for a few hours due to technical reasons, the companies said that there was no problem as expected. Spokesperson Dhakal said that the companies can claim electricity if the power is not purchased as per the agreement.
