Kathmandu. The Rastriya Swatantra Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has made public a commitment with the target of generating 30,000 megawatts of electricity in the next 10 years. According to the party, the laws related to land, forest and environment will be amended for the rapid development of the energy sector and the entire process will be coordinated by the Ministry of Energy. For this, a ‘one-door service’ will be implemented by eliminating cumbersome administrative procedures.
It has also proposed that the government would take responsibility for ensuring security and peace during the construction of hydropower projects. In addition, legal provisions will be introduced to involve the private sector in production, storage, transmission and distribution.
The RSP has also pledged to extend the 35-year production license period to 50 years, introduce laws allowing electricity generated from wind and big solar farms to be sold in the grid through net metering, and encourage the establishment of solar farms in barren lands.
