Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Mayors’ Forum has agreed to collaborate with the Government of Nepal to carry out a scientific and sustainable management study of waste generated from the Kathmandu Valley.

The Waste Management Study and Coordination Committee has pledged to collaborate with the government for coordination, facilitation and collective management among all local levels as needed.

The 13th meeting of the Forum presided over by Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan also decided to formulate a master plan by formulating laws related to cycle lane from Godawari to Budhanilkantha.

There is a lot of work that needs to be done for the integrated development of the valley and for the ease of living of the citizens. That’s what the forum is looking at right now. After the meeting, Forum Chair Maharjan said that the local levels in the Kathmandu Valley were ready to collaborate with the federal government for the implementation of the concept of metro.

On the occasion, Acting Chief of KMC, Sunita Dangol, underscored the need of collaborating with the government for the construction of physical infrastructures by choosing appropriate medium as per the geography of Kathmandu Valley, originality of settlement, cultural and social customs while operating public transport.

He said that it was necessary to review the past studies to come to a firm conclusion about which one was studied about the public transport system in the past. Dangol said, “The problems are borderless, the results will be achieved by co-existing the local levels in the valley and co-operating in a coordinated manner rather than calling them their own.”

Maharjan said that the analysis of the study report carried out earlier for the operation of public transport in the Kathmandu Valley and the model suitable for the Kathmandu Valley would be presented in the next meeting. Waste management, operation of public transport, distribution of drinking water, conservation of river civilization, food hygiene, disaster management and mitigation of impact of climate change are the problems without border, Dangol said, adding that Forum should be utilized to resolve these problems.
