Kathmandu. In the first seven months of the current fiscal year, imports amounted to Rs 1123.48 billion while exports amounted to Rs 168.14 billion.
Compared to the same period last year, imports increased by 13.65 percent and exports by 32.19 percent. In the same period last year, imports amounted to Rs 988.58 billion while exports amounted to Rs 127.20 billion.
Nepal’s trade deficit increased by 10.91 per cent to Rs 955.34 billion as exports were lower than imports. In the same period of the last fiscal year, the trade deficit was Rs. 861.38 billion.
Imports have increased in Nepal as the elections to the House of Representatives are approaching. Looking at the period of 7 months of the current fiscal year, there has been a lot of imports in January.
According to the Department of Customs, the total foreign trade was Rs 1,291.63 billion while the import-export ratio stood at 6.68 percent. The share of exports is 13.02 percent while the share of imports is 86.98 percent. The share of both of them has increased.
