Nepal-India economic cooperation should be made smoother and result-oriented: Chair Dhakal

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has stressed the need to make the Nepal-India economic cooperation more result-oriented.

At the ‘Second Indo-Nepal Trade Festival 2026’ that kicked off in New Delhi, the capital of India, the Foreign Minister underlined the need for ease of customs process, standard, standard, strengthening digital trade system and facilitation in financial access and technology transfer to small and medium enterprises.

Stating that India is Nepal’s largest trade partner and major source of investment, Dhakal said that the partnership between the two countries is distinguished by its open border, cultural proximity and people-to-people contacts.

Stating that the world economy was in a state of uncertainty and disruption in the supply chain, he stressed the need for further strengthening cooperation among the neighbouring countries. He was of the view that India’s recent Union Budget has given priority to infrastructure, digital connectivity, green energy and promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises, which would create new opportunities for Nepal as well.

Stating that Nepal is prosperous in hydropower and export has already started to India, Dhakal said Nepal could become India’s reliable green energy partner if appropriate transmission line and policy level stability.

He also said that Nepal has presented natural beauty, adventure and spiritual destinations in the tourism sector and investment opportunities were expanding in hotel, resort and cable car projects.

“There is a lot of potential in energy, tourism, industrial zone, special economic zone, cross-border logistics, agro processing, pharma industry, education and health services,” he said. I urge the Indian investors to invest in such sectors. ”

Stating that the private sector of Nepal has consistently advocated for political stability and economic discipline, he said policy-level reforms were underway in Nepal to ensure confidence among the investors in the long-term.

Stating that the Indo-Nepal Trade Festival is not just a formal event, it is a forum to transform goodwill into business partnership, he called on the Indian industrialists and investors to forward concrete collaborations in green energy, digital services, tourism and manufacturing sectors.

He also expressed the belief that the Indo-Nepal economic cooperation could be taken to a new height on the basis of political willpower, policy stability and mutual trust. The event was attended by Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies of Nepal Anil Kumar Sinha, Minister of Communications of India, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Ambassador of Nepal to India Shankar Prasad Sharma and other high-level representatives.
