Morang. Addressing the regional assembly, Dr Shekhar Koirala pledged to take concrete initiatives to expand the services of government hospitals, establish colleges and resolve the problems of landless squatters.

Pointing out the need for further improvement in the local government hospitals, he said there were problems especially in the lab and blood testing services. “The need of the patients to go out even for general tests should be ended”, he said, adding that modern lab and full arrangement of blood test would now be the priority. ”

As regards health services, he said the organization run by his mother has been conducting free health camps in every ward of Bhuriganga on a monthly basis. He claimed that the facilities available in these camps would not be easily available in many other places as well. He said that such service-oriented activities would be made more systematic and widespread in the coming days.

Referring to education, Dr. Koirala announced that he would take initiative to establish the college at the local level. Stating that students are compelled to go to Biratnagar for higher studies at present, he said it was a big problem for the families with poor financial background. “Now we have to end the situation of our children leaving home to study,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, he said that he would take initiative for an impartial solution to the problem of landless squatters at the local level though it was nationwide. He pledged to forward the process of distribution of land ownership certificates in a transparent manner by bringing central members of the concerned commissions in the area.

Stating that development works are underway, he pledged to give continuity to the progress made in the sectors of road, education, health and drinking water. He also said that the significant presence of women is a positive sign and that training and support will be provided to promote women entrepreneurship.

He urged the voters to cast their votes in the tree symbol of the Nepali Congress in both the first-past-the-post and proportional representation category. The meeting was said to have been enthusiastic.
