Nepali Congress submits memorandum to Election Commission over violation of election code of conduct

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has drawn the attention of the Election Commission (EC) over the increasing incidents of violation of the election code of conduct. The Nepali Congress (NC) on Sunday submitted a memorandum to the EC regarding the violation of the election code of conduct at various places.

A team led by NC Spokesperson and central member Devraj Chalise submitted the four-point memorandum to the Election Commission. These include the blatantly misuse of the election symbol by the political parties, the use of children by the political parties in the election campaign and the misuse of the national flag against the directive issued by the Election Commission regarding the use of the national flag and the dissemination of information that is against the election code of conduct through social networks to induce the people’s mandate to fulfill the party’s aspirations ।

Receiving the memorandum, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari said that more than 1100 complaints have been received about the violation of the election code of conduct so far and the EC is collecting evidences. He said that action would be taken after conducting a study as the amount was found distributed in different places.

He said the EC was sensitive to the incident of violation of the code of conduct and thanked the NC for its attention. He also said that the Election Commission was committed to holding a fair election.

The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has submitted a memorandum to the people concerned to abide by the election code of conduct in order to maintain freedom, fairness, transparency, frugality and fear-free environment in the elections.

Chalise was accompanied by party central member and senior advocate Prem Bahadur Khadka, Democratic Lawyers’ Association chair senior advocate Sitaram KC, NC youth leader Manojmani Acharya, NC central office acting chief secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal and coordinator of NC Media Centre Jeevan Bhandari, among others.
