Security tightened in Madhes

Janakpurdham. Security has been beefed up in Madhes province in view of the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives.

Madhes-Province Police Office, Janakpurdham has said that preparations are underway to hold the election in a planned manner to prevent violation of election code of conduct and to maintain a fair and peaceful environment.

Security has been beefed up along the Nepal-India border. Check points have been set up and special surveillance is being conducted. According to the office, the security monitoring and inspection of the polling centers in all the eight districts has already been done.

Out of 2,160 polling stations in Madhes province, 1,246 are in the most sensitive condition. Most of the polling stations adjoining the Indian border in the province are highly sensitive. Spokesperson of the Madhes Province Police Office, Kamal Thapa, said that the monitoring and security measures have been carried out in a planned manner. According to him, the security committees of all the districts of the province have been classified as highly sensitive.

Out of 32 constituencies in Madhes Province, 1,246 polling stations are in the most sensitive condition while 755 polling stations are in sensitive condition and 159 polling stations are in normal condition.

Out of 296 polling stations in Saptari district, 209 polling stations are listed as highly sensitive. Similarly, 154 polling stations in Siraha, 194 in Dhanusha, 163 in Mahothari, 158 in Sarlahi, 152 in Rautahat and 145 in Bara have been listed as highly sensitive.

There are a total of 4,471 voting centres in Madhesh province. A total of 1,028 candidates from various political parties and independents are contesting in the election. There are 3,517,123 voters in the province. Of them, 1,905,819 are males and 1,611,304 are females.
