Kathmandu. At least 31 people were killed and 149 wounded in Israeli airstrikes in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut, the country’s health ministry announced.

The ministry’s Public Health Emergency Operation Center said in a statement on Monday that 20 people had been killed and 91 wounded in the southern suburbs of Beirut. At least 11 people were killed and 58 wounded in attacks in southern Lebanon, the centre said, adding that the death toll could rise.

The Israeli strikes targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut, triggering a wave of displacement after rockets were launched from southern Lebanon into Israeli institutions.

This is the first time a rocket has been fired at an Israeli facility since the ceasefire agreement came into force in November 2024.

In November 2024, a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon mandated the withdrawal of Israeli troops from villages and towns along the southern border within 60 days. The Lebanese government then agreed to extend the deadline until February 18. However, the occupation forces remain stationed at five points and continue to violate the ceasefire.
