. KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Poudel has said that the upcoming elections are not only a constitutional process to elect representatives but also a historic opportunity to make the journey of federal democratic republic more comprehensive, credible and stronger.

The election of the member of the House of Representatives is going to be held on March 4 as an outlet for a complex situation in our political history. This election is not only a constitutional process to elect representatives, it is also a historic opportunity to make the journey of federal democratic republic more comprehensive, credible and consolidated.
The country has made significant achievements in the last few years.TAG_OPEN_div_31 We have established democratic republic after a long struggle and sacrifice. Everyone knows that the new constitution has ensured an inclusive state structure.
We have institutionalized the federal system of governance and delegated powers to the provinces and local levels. Efforts have been made to strengthen the rights of senior citizens, people with disabilities, Dalits, women and disadvantaged communities by expanding the social security program. In the last decade, the country has been making remarkable progress in education, health, roads, energy and communication infrastructure. It is well known that these achievements have not been achieved easily, they are the result of the sacrifices and unwavering faith of the people as well as their active participation.
However, we still have work to do in the areas of good governance, social justice, responsible governance and service delivery.TAG_OPEN_div_27 I am confident that the upcoming elections will institutionalize the same spirit and give new energy to democracy. This election will fulfill the dreams of the previous generation who fought and sacrificed their lives against autocracy, the youths demand good governance, the expectation of transparency and accountability. And, it will make our democratic practice more convincing and mature.

This election is the need of the hour for us to move towards new possibilities while protecting and promoting our recent achievements. Therefore, it is our common task and historical responsibility to make this election successful. I urge all political parties, candidates, civil society, media and bodies concerned to remain fully committed to conducting the election process in a peaceful, free, fair and fear-free environment.
