Salyan. SALYAN: A vehicle carrying rice and liquor belonging to the Rastriya Swatantra Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party) (RSP) was seized in Salyan district on Sunday.

Police impounded the jeep (Karnali State 01-018 Cha 0429) en route to Kharagar at Sallibazaar of Bangad-Kupinde municipality this morning.

Police seized 7 cartons of alcohol, 2 cartons of beer, 2 sacks of rice and 3 cartons of cooking oil from the vehicle at around 8.00 am on Monday, said Devraj Bhattarai, information officer at the District Police Office, Salyan.

The vehicle used for the party’s campaign had the party flag, banner and sound box. Locals have started protesting against the election code of conduct as liquor and food items were loaded in the vehicles as the voting is approaching. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Jeep driver Nanda Rana claimed that the goods were transported to Khairaghar to local traders. The materials are said to belong to Kriti Bahadur Rana. RSP Bangad-Kupinde Municipality Chairman Lokendra Oli said that it was the weakness of the drivers to keep such materials in the vehicles used for the publicity.

Admitting that the mistake was made by mistake or unknowingly, the party was not aware of it and that although the driver did so on his own discretion, liquor and rice were kept in the vehicle intentionally.

Police have impounded the vehicle. Further investigation into the case is underway, police said.
