Kathmandu. The Department of Passports under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that the passport distribution system may be closed for a few days in the interim.

The Department has clarified that the service may be disrupted for a week in course of installing the new system by replacing the old system.

Issuing a notice, the Department said the passport service provided by the district and area administrations and the Nepali diplomatic missions abroad may be closed for one to three days. However, the services provided by the Department of Passport may be disrupted for a week.

As it will take one to three months to stabilize the system once the new system is installed and implemented, it may take longer for the passport to be prepared and issued by the district, area administration offices and Nepali missions abroad during the interim period.

The department is in the process of installing the new system. The service recipients who need passport for the next five months have been urged to take the service from the concerned body before the interim situation begins. The department has said that information about the new system will be released in the near future.
