Kathmandu. The Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) has decided that the demands of industrialists over the dispute over dedicated and trunk line tariff will not be met. The Commission on Sunday held a hearing on the case of Panchakanya Plastic and Panchakanya Steel.
They had filed an application at the Commission seeking compensation by revoking the unfair decision of paying the outstanding electricity tariff to the consumers taken from the dedicated feeder and tank line from the Nepal Electricity Authority. The application was heard by the commission.
According to NEA, Panchakanya Plastics has yet to pay Rs 24.63 lakh and Panchakanya Steels Rs 5.211 lakh. As per NEA’s request, Panchakanya Plastics has paid Rs 77,975 while Panchakanya Steel has paid Rs 186,000.
According to Ram Prasad Dhital, chairman of the commission, the decision has been made that the demands of the industrialists will not be fulfilled. The decision of the commission has paved the way for the NEA to collect additional tariffs. If they are not satisfied with the decision of the commission, they can go to court.
The Commission has been continuously hearing the issue of tariffs. The Commission has been taking necessary decision on the basis of existing rules, laws and past precedents. For the hearing, the applicant’s lawyers and three officials of the Law Department were present on behalf of the NRA.
The Commission which is the regulatory body of Nepal’s energy sector has been settling disputes in this sector. If the applicant is not satisfied with the decision of the commission, then the path will be paved for the applicant to go to court.
