Chitwan. The process to acquire land from the Ministry of Forest for the construction of a waste processing centre in Bharatpur Metropolitan City has reached the final stage. The metropolis has allocated the amount to be paid to the Ministry for land use and tree plantation.
Acting Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chitrasen Adhikari, said that the municipality has allocated Rs 30 million for the right to use around 16 bigha of land in the national forest area of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-11.
The metropolis has already paid Rs 51.9 million 75 thousand. The ministry has asked the government to pay the amount after the environmental impact assessment is prepared and approved, the official said.
According to him, necessary data and documents have been made available for the environmental impact assessment. The ministry has assured that the trees will be cut down after the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) is approved.
Chief of Environment Division of KMC, Birat Ghimire, said that the metropolis has already paid Rs 51.9 million 75 thousand for the protection of 10 saplings for five years. Now, Rs 1.90 crore has been allocated for the conservation of saplings.
Currently, more than 80 tonnes of garbage is collected in the metropolis every day.
