Every Nepali has a debt of about 1 lakh, how much has the public debt increased in eight months?

Kathmandu. With the rapid increase in public debt in Nepal, the total debt of every Nepali has reached around Rs 1 lakh. According to the Public Debt Management Office (PDMO), every Nepali has received a loan of Rs 98,691 till mid-March of the current fiscal year 2082/83.

According to the 2021 census, Nepal’s total public debt has reached Rs 2,878.29 billion based on the population of 291,64,578.

According to the data of the office, the total loan liability has increased to Rs 2,878.29 billion by mid-March from Rs 2,674.04 billion in the beginning of the current fiscal year.

In the first eight months of the current fiscal year, the government has received loans worth Rs 3046.72 billion and repaid Rs 1,941.96 billion. The loss in exchange rate is estimated to be Rs 979.81 billion. Overall, public debt has increased by about Rs 204 billion during this period.

According to the report, internal debt has increased from Rs. 1,268.22 billion to Rs. 1,348.11 billion. During the period, Rs 2,436.66 billion was received towards internal loans and Rs 1,637.75 billion was repaid. The domestic debt on the basis of gross domestic product (GDP) has reached 22.07 percent.

Likewise, the external debt has increased from Rs 1,405.82 billion to Rs 1,530.18 billion. Of the total receipt of Rs. 568.03 billion towards external loan, Rs. 304.24 billion has been repaid.

The loss at exchange rate stood at Rs 979.81 billion. In terms of GDP, the external debt has reached 25.06 percent.
