Iran-Israel conflict: Explosion in Dubai suspends aviation services

Kathmandu. The United Arab Emirates has temporarily suspended flights as the war in the Middle East escalates. Explosions were heard in Dubai on Tuesday morning, as the country’s soldiers tried to target missiles and drones coming from Iran.

The Israeli military said it had launched “massive airstrikes” on Tehran and stepped up attacks targeting Iranian-backed groups in Lebanon. Israel also reported two rockets from Iran in Tel Aviv and the southern region of the Galilee Sea, but there were no reports of injuries.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) suspended flights and resumed operations as the situation stabilizes. But a drone attack in Dubai caused a fire in a fuel tank. No one was injured in the attack.

The impact of Tehran and Israeli-US strikes has caused major disruptions to shipments in the Strait of Hormuz. This has pushed up oil prices and created the risk of a global energy crisis. The price of oil is currently above $100 per barrel. US President Donald Trump has urged some countries to protect the Strait of Hormuz, but there was no immediate commitment of help.

Israel has carried out several strikes in Tehran and destroyed Iranian air defense systems and missile launchers, a military spokesman said. Meanwhile, more than 1 million people have been displaced in Lebanon due to the conflict.

Iran says more than 1,300 civilians have been killed in the conflict.

One person was also reported killed in an Iranian missile attack in Abu Dhabi, and two oil facilities were set on fire. The incident highlights the intensification of war, regional insecurity and energy supply crises in the Middle East.
