20 Nepalis arrested from Cambodia for online fraud

Kathmandu. As many as 20 Nepalis, who were engaged in illegal activities including online fraud in Cambodia, have been rescued and repatriated from their homes without a visa.

They were rescued at the initiative of the Nepali Embassy in Thailand and with the support of the Cambodian government. They arrived in Cambodia through various means and were lured by various people into online scamming centers and casinos operated illegally there, and were also engaged in other illegal activities.

“We have received information that Nepali nationals have been engaged in illegal activities, including online fraud, and are staying in Cambodia without visa or visa-expiring,” the embassy said. According to the Embassy, many people have complained that the passports of those employed in the scamming centers are confiscated by the company or their passports have been lost due to transfer from the scamming centers.

In such a situation, the Embassy of Nepal in Bangkok issues a one-way travel permit free of charge to rescue the Nepalese returnees to Nepal. According to Cambodia’s tourism statistics, 101 Nepalis visited Cambodia in 2021 and 1,977 visited Cambodia in 2022, 2,940 in 2023, 6,404 in 2024 and 9,676 in 2025.

The embassy has also urged one and all not to go abroad for foreign employment only after obtaining work permit as per the standards set by the Government of Nepal and not to come to other countries like Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand in the pretext of visiting other countries in the pretext of earning quick and high money
