NRA advises people not to travel unnecessarily for next three days

KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), under the Home Ministry, has warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall, snowfall and gusty winds in several parts of the country in the next three days. As per the weather forecast released by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the NEA said there will be a significant change in the weather from Friday, March 6.

KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has appealed the citizens across the country to adopt special alertness in view of the weather forecast for the next three days. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, heavy rainfall, snowfall and destructive winds are likely to occur in different parts of the country.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, there are chances of heavy rain and snowfall at one or two places of the hilly and mountainous regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces on Friday afternoon. Likewise, people living in mountainous areas have been urged to remain alert as cold is likely to increase and normal life could be affected due to snowfall in these areas.

The risk of storm has increased in Dang and Nepalgunj districts of Lumbini province as well as in the Tarai region since Friday. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, strong winds gusting up to 119 kilometres per hour are likely to occur in the districts around Biratnagar, Dhankuta and Dharan in the eastern region on Saturday.

The Authority has requested the people to adopt precaution to be safe from the risks. The municipality has urged people not to go out for any special work and take shelter in safe places, to close the windows and doors of the house properly during the storm, to keep the fire sources (stove, gas stove, etc.) closed, to stay in a safe place if you are driving, not to panic in crowded places, not to panic in crowds and to move slowly to safe places, not to stay under weak structures, tall trees, telephone and electric poles and wires, and not to use electrical appliances and not to touch hanging wires.

The Authority has also urged one and all to follow the weather forecast and the official information of the Authority to be issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology regularly.
