Kathmandu. Work on East-West Railway has been halted due to a dispute over compensation. The work has been halted due to the dispute over compensation of 14 people in Bardibas Municipality.

The railway service has been operated from Jayanagar of India to the railway station at Bhangaha Municipality of Mahottari district with the support of the Indian government.

Fourteen people are yet to pay Rs seven to eight crore as compensation. The Department has requested the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport for the release of the amount.

The victims of Bardibas had repeatedly approached the Department of Railways for compensation but they had threatened to stop the construction work several times in the past due to lack of compensation.
