Kathmandu. The Bagmati Province government has collected Rs 24.49 billion or 36.29 per cent of the annual target in the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2082÷83.

The main sources of revenue collected by the state government are the registration of land revenue and vehicle tax. According to Suraj Poudel, an officer at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Planning Development of Bagmati Province, the revenue collection in the fiscal year 2082÷83 was Rs 13.93 billion against the target of Rs 30.89 billion from mid-July to mid-March of the current fiscal year.

According to him, the government had set a target to collect Rs 7.70 billion revenue from the head of land registration in the fiscal year 2082÷83 while revenue of Rs 2.56 billion has been collected in the first eight months of the current fiscal year.

Likewise, the provincial government has collected only Rs 4.44 billion in revenue against the target of Rs 8.25 billion set for the fiscal year 2082÷83 under the head of vehicle tax under vehicle test pass, route permit, distribution and renewal of driving license.

According to the Ministry, the provincial government has collected Rs 5.04 billion as VAT against the estimated Rs 8.79 billion as VAT and Rs 1.75 billion as excise duty.

Similarly, the government has received 53.60 per cent or Rs 7.94 billion in the period of eight months against the estimated receipt of Rs 14.81 billion under equalization grant from the federal government, said Officer Poudel.

Likewise, the provincial government was expected to collect Rs 4.77 billion in revenue from internal sources in the fiscal year 2082÷83 against which 52.35 per cent or Rs 2.50 billion was collected in the first eight months, the ministry said.

According to him, the decrease in the purchase and sale of real estate and new vehicles due to financial liquidity and the loss caused to various revenue collection bodies of the state government during the Jejani agitation on September 7 and 24 have prevented the expected revenue collection.
