175 ride-sharing drivers punished for causing mischief to passengers

. KATHMANDU: As many as 175 drivers for their involvement in ride-sharing service have been taken into action as part of a special checking campaign launched by the Traffic Police in Kathmandu Valley to curb increasing traffic pressure, unsystematic driving and rule violations.

According to the Kathmandu Traffic Police Office, the action was taken after the drivers were found violating the prevailing laws in course of monitoring in different busy areas of the Valley.TAG_OPEN_div_46

Spokesperson of Kathmandu Traffic Police Office, Superintendent of Police (SP) Naresh Raj Subedi said that the special checking campaign has been launched to control the trend of unauthorized service, transporting passengers without meeting the criteria and ignoring traffic rules in the valley of late.TAG_OPEN_div_44 ।

TAG_OPEN_div_42 He said, “We have conducted special checking campaigns in different places of the Kathmandu Valley. A total of 175 drivers were taken into action during the drive. According to him, most of the drivers were operating offline without the permission of the ‘online platform’.

According to Kathmandu Traffic Police Chief Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nawaraj Adhikari, it is mandatory to take permission from the concerned body to operate the ride-sharing service, regular maintenance of the vehicle, carry the required documents and follow the set rules.TAG_OPEN_div_38 “The action has been initiated after many drivers were found to be flouting these basic standards,” he said. ”

Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office has arrested five persons on the charge of swindling hundreds of thousands of rupees in the pretext of foreign employment and made them public today.TAG_OPEN_div_30

The arrestees have been identified as Arjun Bahadur Poudel, 36, of Bansgadhi Municipality-8, Bardiya, Dilliram Bhujel, 46, of Barahathawa Municipality-2, Sarlahi, Uma Gurung, 43, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16, Ashish Mahat, 33, of Pokhara Metropolitan City-33, Kaski and Sangita Shrestha, 35, of Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-3, Ramechhap.TAG_OPEN_div_28

According to Superintendent of Police (TAG_OPEN_div_26 SP) Manohar Prasad Bhatta of Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Poudel had swindled Rs 330,000 in the name of sending him to Croatia, Rs 299,000 in the name of sending Bhujel to the Maldives and Rs 200,000 each by pretending to send him to the UK.

SP Bhatta said that they were arrested from different places of Kathmandu and sent to the Department of Foreign Employment, Tahachal today for further investigation.TAG_OPEN_div_24
