Kathmandu. The probe commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki has recommended restructuring of the transport facilities of the ministers and their families. According to the report, a maximum of 3 small vehicles will be provided for the wives and families of the ministers and the ministers should use the Indian Pajero or Scorpio instead of expensive vehicles for visiting the districts.
The commission has recommended the government to completely ban the purchase of high-end Japanese vehicles costing Rs 2-4 crore. The report has also proposed that the Scorpio vehicles received from India after the elections should be set aside for the new ministers.
Likewise, the NHRC has stressed on the need of making clear provisions to take stern action if the ministers or their family members misuse the vehicles of the corporations and projects under the ministry. The report states that clear standards and monitoring system are needed to prevent the misuse of government resources.
The NHRC has also suggested the government not to purchase scooters and motorcycles unnecessarily. In addition, old and scrap vehicles that are not in use, burnt or cannot be repaired should be auctioned and managed within 6 months. The commission has also proposed to deduct depreciation of government vehicles being used illegally and sell them to government officials.
