Kathmandu. Newly appointed Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Sobita Gautam, who was elected to the House of Representatives from Chitwan constituency-3, is known as an emerging youth leader in contemporary Nepali politics. Gautam, who represents the Rastriya Swatantra Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party), is known to be active in politics with a clear vision to take the voice of the youth TAG_CLOSE_u_15 TAG_OPEN_u_15 to the policy level.
Gautam, who was born in Dolakha on Asar 17, 2052 BS, has been living in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chitwan. She is survived by her father Krishna Prasad Gautam and a brother. Gautam completed her secondary education from a school in Bhaktapur. After that, she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Law. She is currently studying LLM at Kathmandu School of Law.
Gautam, who has been active in law, human rights and public issues before entering politics, has been attending various youth campaigns and policy debates. He has the experience of resolving legal problems and rights violations through the legal process.
He also has the experience of raising policy debates, public concerns and reform agenda at the national level in the parliament. As a former member of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, she has first-hand experience in the field of bills, human rights and justice. She has legal consulting experience at the Nepal Health Research Council, as well as a strong leadership in running campaigns through a network of youth organizations in Nepal, advocating with the government, and exerting policy pressure.
Making her identity in the international arena, she has contributed to the United Nations-related programs as well as the health committee member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. His activism in spreading awareness about public health through dialogue is noteworthy.
Gautam, who is clear in favour of youth’s participation, good governance, transparency and policy-level reforms, stressed the need of linking politics with service and result-oriented actions. In course of the election, she has put forward the agenda of development, good governance and creating opportunities for the youth.
Before entering politics, she was also known in the media industry. Especially, as a presenter of health programs, he has made a positive impact on society through fact-based debates, campaigns against misinformation and public awareness programs. Gautam, who was awarded the ‘One Young World – Politician of the Year Award’ in 2023, has established herself as a representative voice of the younger generation.
Gautam, who is also the founding central member of the RSP, represents a new generation of political leadership that prioritizes policy reforms, transparency and citizen-centric governance. He has been seen as a potential young leader in Nepali politics due to his policy clarity, studious nature and activism. She has been active in the parliament with the goal of expanding the role of youths in building a prosperous Nepal.
